Characteristics of agriculture and settlement in the distric

​The size of agricultural lands for crops in the district is about 167,000 acres, which are 44% of total agricultural lands in the country.

 

Some of those lands are irrigated, some are covered by structures and some are cultivated fields and pasture. This area is 'the vegetable barn' of the country, used for export and the local market.

The intensive crops in the greenhouses and the tunnels take up a big part of the agricultural exports in the district.

National Priority Zone A

The regional councils' settlements: Eilot, Arava Tihona, Tamar, Ramat Negev, Eshkol, Bnei Shimon, Hof Ashkelon (the south-western settlements), Sdot Negev, Har Hebron, Merhavim.
Special treatment is given to about 40 settlements of Otef Gaza: agricultural grants budget for about 40% of the funding, participation in about 80% of the funding for investments in agricultural infrastructures.
